The Journey of Blue
In the 16th century, Portugal became the first European country to bring back the famous blue and white porcelain from China, known as "white gold." Thanks to Portuguese maritime routes, these precious objects arrived in Lisbon and fascinated all of Europe.
Very quickly, the Portuguese asked Chinese artisans to create porcelain featuring their own symbols: ships, crosses, coats of arms, or armillary spheres. From this encounter, a unique art form was born, blending Chinese and Portuguese cultures.
This influence also transformed Portuguese azulejos. Ancient colors gradually faded away to make room for the blue and white inspired by Chinese porcelain. The walls of palaces and churches then became like grand painted porcelains.
This collection is inspired by this history of travel, cultural blending, and transmission. It brings together the sea, fragments, Portuguese motifs, and the softness of Chinese blue in a contemporary and poetic vision.
