Episode 3: INSIDE THE STUDIO -AZUL ,BRANCO e CARVAO
Studio Diary: The Genesis of "AZUL ,BRANCO e CARVAO" for the Lucas Art Gallery in Sintra
There are some places that don't just inspire art—they demand it. This is exactly what I felt while preparing my brand-new collection, entitled "AZUL ,BRANCO e CARVAO"
. This series of pieces was entirely conceived and created for a very special exhibition in Sintra, Portugal—a land of mist, palaces, and mystery. My work will be hosted there in a truly magnificent setting: the Lucas Art Gallery.
To echo the magnetic beauty of this location, I wanted to return to the essentials, both in my gestures and in the mediums I chose.
The Alchemy of Blue, White, and Charcoal
While the title of the collection evokes a certain duality, the true secret of this series lies in the meeting of three specific elements: "AZUL ,BRANCO e CARVAO".
Each of these mediums carries its own emotional weight and texture, but their connection on the canvas creates a whole new harmony:
Blue: It weaves itself between shadow and light like a breath of serenity—a bridge between the skies of Sintra and the intensity of the stroke.
White: It represents raw light, the fertile void, and the starting point for every relief.
Charcoal : It brings depth, the trace of the earth, and a velvety, absolute black that structures the space.
For me, connecting these three mediums infuses the work with immense purity. There is a raw honesty in charcoal that blends beautifully with the softness of white and the vibration of blue. This artistic trinity brings a very unique emotion to my work, creating an atmosphere that feels suspended, vibrant, and almost mystical.
Immersed in Sintra
Creating for the Lucas Art Gallery, in such a majestic place, pushed me to strip away the noise and focus solely on pure emotion. The contrasts of the charcoal, the clarity of the white, and the touches of blue resonate perfectly with the romantic energy and timeless architecture of Sintra.
The collection is coming to life right now in the studio, amidst charcoal dust and pigments. I cannot wait for you to see the final result and to share the energy of these new canvases with you at the exhibition.
