Azulejo in the Contemporary Age: Dora Fernandes’ Interview

28/06/2026
Azulejo is a living art. This exhibition, which combines photography and digital technology with a traditional art form, is the perfect example of this continuity.

Come check out this exclusive interview with Dora Fernandes from the National Azulejo Museum in Lisbon, produced by Paris 75 Image. Even though I don't appear on camera myself, this official video archive is deeply meaningful to me. Dora shares her expert insight into the living evolution of Portuguese tile art and its ongoing dialogue with contemporary creation—specifically through the lens of my work.

Her words perfectly capture the essence of my artistic vision:

For those new to my world, I'm Bastien Tomasini, professionally known as O Gringo. As a French contemporary mixed media artist based in Portugal, my goal is to build bridges. I connect traditional Portuguese azulejos with mixed media sculpture, photography, digital language, urban art, history, and my signature cobalt blue.

This journey has allowed me to present a solo exhibition at the National Azulejo Museum and take my work to international galleries in Paris, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. On a daily basis, you can always find my latest work at La Smart Galerie, located in the heart of Lisbon's LX Factory.

Hit play, check out this great production by Paris 75 Image, and dive into the continuous history of this unique cultural heritage!
