About me

O Gringo, alias Bastien Tomasini, is a contemporary mixed-media artist born in 1988 in Nice, on the French Riviera. Through his travels, he developed a deep passion for preserving the memory of emblematic places, magnificent architecture, and historical fragments. His artistic universe is rooted in the ancestral tradition of Portuguese azulejos — hand-painted glazed tiles that adorn Mediterranean façades and interiors with rhythm and storytelling.
O Gringo reinterprets these ornamental motifs through a contemporary lens, integrating patterns encountered during his journeys across Portugal and beyond. His mosaics reveal fragments of lived experience, cultural memory, and emotional landscapes. The human body often becomes his canvas, a living surface where love, spirituality, history, and modern identity intertwine.
Each artwork begins with meticulous historical research. Titles are carefully chosen to convey layered narratives and meaningful emotion. Immersing himself in inspiring sites such as the Museu Nacional do Azulejo in Lisbon, he absorbs architectural details, symbolic language, and historical depth — transforming them into visual stories where heritage meets contemporary expression.
Through this fusion of tradition and modernity, O Gringo creates works that bridge cultures, generations, and emotional worlds.
